ATP Finals 2024: Super Jannik Sinner claims year end title on home soil without dropping a set

Jannik Sinner   has done it. The World No.1 has produced a near flawless tournament to win the year end   ATP Finals   for the first time in Turin. He saw off   Taylor Fritz   who he also conquered at the US Open 6-4, 6-4 and becomes the first Italian champion in the tournament's 55 year history. His serve in particular was dynamite. He won 83 per cent of points behind his first delivery. He becomes the first player to win the ATP Finals without dropping a set since Ivan Lendl in 1986 highlighting what has been a truly remarkable season. The American put on a good performance but it wasn’t enough against the 2-time Grand Slam champion, who defeated him for the second time this week. In the first part of the set, Fritz kept the match balanced up to 3-3, with both players holding serve without major difficulties. The 7th game was the longest of the set, lasting 7 minutes during which Sinner had three break point opportunities. On his third chance, the Italian play...

Nadal 'Will Decide If He Is Ready To Play' On Farewell Says His Davis Cup Teammate

Rafael Nadal will determine whether he is ready to compete at the 2024 Davis Cup Finals, according to his teammate Roberto Bautista Agut. This year's Davis Cup Finals promises to be the most emotional in the tournament's history. That is because Nadal's legendary career will end after Team Spain's final match at this year's iteration of the team event. Nadal announced that decision last month. After several attempts to return to a level good enough to challenge for the most significant tournaments, the 22-time Grand Slam champion eventually decided it was time to end his career. Although the Spaniard has not retired yet, some are already emotional about his upcoming exit from the sport. He is widely considered one of the three greatest players ever, along with Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. Djokovic already paid an emotional tribute to Nadal after their final professional match at the Six Kings Slam exhibition in Saudi Arabia. The Serbian called his great rival a...

Alcaraz Out Of ATP Finals After Angry Loss To Inspired Zverev

Alexander Zverev brought his top level to his last round-robin match at the 2024 ATP Finals, beating Carlos Alcaraz and eliminating him from the competition. Coming into this match, both of these players were in a completely different situation. While Zverev could afford to lose and still advance, that wasn't the case for his opponent. After Alcaraz's loss to Casper Ruud, the 21-year-old needed to win at least one set in this match to stay in play for a semi-final spot, at least theoretically, as the outcome of the last round-robin match between Ruud and Andrey Rublev will decide the final standings. Early on in the opening set of this match, it didn't seem like the Spaniard was working efficiently towards that goal. In the second game, he faced two break points but saved both. A couple of games later, he faced three consecutive break points, and despite saving all, he had to face the fourth one and the sixth of the set. Yet, he saved it again, keeping the set close. Alcara...

African countries still sending money to their colonial masters

African countries still sending money to their colonisers Did you know that some African countries are still using their colonial currency? At least 14 countries are still sending money to France because they still use their colonial currency. The West African CFA Franc created in 1945 is used by eight West African countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger, Senegal, and Togo. Six Central African countries use the Central African CFA Franc: Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and the Republic of Congo. The Comorian Franc is used only by the Comoros. Interestingly, all these countries were colonised by France except Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea who were colonised by the Portuguese and Spain respectively. All these three currencies are backed by France, meaning they are pegged to the euro and can be freely exchanged. France manages the issuance and printing of these currencies. In exchange, countries using the CFA Franc ...
